Abstract
Mathematical equations are derived for the magnetic potential and the magnetoelastic and the Maxwell stresses in a general anisotropic soft ferromagnetic half-space. It is assumed that the effect of magnetostriction is negligible, the magnetic potential and the stresses are independent of one of the three Cartesian coordinates and the magnetic quantities associated with the rigid body state do not vary spatially within the half-space. The equations are used to obtain explicit expressions for the magnetic stresses in an infinite anisotropic soft ferromagnetic material containing an open planar crack.
