Abstract

Magnetic properties of rough Fe(110) films have been investigated by Torsion Oscillation Magnetometry (TOM). It is found that the magnetic moment of a single Fe-atom on a step edge is increased by (0.7±0.4) μ B to (3.4±0.4) μ b, compared to a surface moment of (2.7±0.2) μ B. The result is roughly in accordance with values obtained from a local moment theory.
