Abstract
As an application of high Tc superconductors, we have developed a design concept to make a superconducting cylinder shielding system. The system gives a very low magnetic field environment which allows to detect biomagnetic signals from the brain by SQUID magnetometers. Using a 3 channel SQUID magnetometer, we demonstrate the magnetic shielding performance with a shielding enclosure as large as 1/10 of the design. We made a big superconducting cylinder of 65cm diameter and 200cm length in collaboration with NGK insulators Ltd.. The cylinder exhibited the designed shielding performance. Besides, we describe a development of a superconducting shielding panel for other shielding applications.
