Abstract

Magnetic measurements were performed on (Y 1- x Zr x )Co 3 compounds, in the temperature range 5–700 K and external fields up to 70 kOe. The saturation magnetizations and Curie temperatures decrease when increasing zirconium content. Above the Curie points the reciprocal susceptibilities follow Curie-Weiss type behaviour. The paramagnetic Curie temperatures are negative for x > 0.35 and positive for smaller zirconium content. The mean effective cobalt moments increase when increasing zirconium content. The magnetic data are analyzed in a spin fluctuation model.
