Abstract

The magnetic susceptibility and high field magnetization up to 35 T were measured on S = 1/2 zigzag antiferromagnet [VO(μ 3 -MoO 4 )(2,2′-bpy)]. The magnetization curve was compared with theoretical one to estimate the nearest-neighbor exchange interaction J 1 to be 56 K. The intrinsic magnetic susceptibility had maximum at around T max = 11 K. A ratio T max / J 1 was much less than that expected for one-dimensional antiferromagnet without next-nearest-neighbor interaction. The magnetic susceptibility and high field magnetization up to 35 T on [VO(μ 3 -MoO 4 )(2,2′-bpy)], a candidate compound for S = 1/2 zigzag antiferromagnetic system, were measured and reported. No spin gap was observed in the magnetization curve measured at 4.2 K. The magnetization curve was compared with theoretical curve to estimate the nearest-neighbor exchange interaction J 1 to be 56 K. The intrinsic magnetic susceptibility had maximum at around T max = 11 K. A ratio T max / J 1 was found to be much less than that expected for one-dimensional antiferromagnet without frustrating next-nearest-neighbor interaction.
