Abstract
The magnetic H – T phase diagram of an Er 1− x Fe x ( x =0.73) amorphous film has been studied by X-ray magnetic circular dichroism (XMCD). Temperature-dependent XMCD studies have allowed us to determine quantitatively the magnetic moments of Er and Fe sub-networks. These microscopic results compare satisfactorily with macroscopic magnetization data. Field-dependent XMCD experiments performed close to the compensation temperature prove unambiguously the existence of a field-induced canted sperimagnetic structure, which has been predicted theoretically but never observed directly before this work.
