Abstract
An analytical model for the prediction of the magnetic field distributions in the airgaps and permanent magnets of large radial-field magnetic gears equipped with radially and Halbach magnetized (HM) permanent magnets is presented. The model is compared to 2-D finite element analysis and has been employed for the design optimization of a large magnetic gear. It is shown that adopting a discrete HM distribution results in significant improvements in torque transmission capability and substantial reduction in active mass.
