Abstract
ABSTRACT Very recently, a few authors have demonstrated based on the vector magnetogram observations that the magnetic flux cancellation is the only definitively identified changes in the vector magnetic fields in the source active regions of coronal mass ejections (CMEs). The observed flux cancellation precedes the CME initiation. In this review we summarize the key results of these studies in the spirit of exploring the physical link between the flux cancellation and the CME initiation.
