Abstract

Excitation spectra of cubic centers in MgO:Cr under magnetic field are reported. The electric and magnetic dipole contributions have been separated. The $^{4}A_{2}\ensuremath{-}^{4}T_{2}$ zero-phonon line has been studied in detail in order to deduce the energies and shapes of its spin-orbit components. From the analysis of our data, it appears that the effect of interlevel nonradiative transitions in determining widths and shifts of the levels is unusually large.
