Abstract

Artificial intelligence is a multidisciplinary and integrated technology that examines and combines human and machine intelligence, transforming the experience of the urban environment. The techniques of artificial intelligence and machine learning are used for optimizing infrastructure of cities, improving public safety, improving the service of healthcare systems, etc. These technologies are effectively used to design and produce solutions regarding various smart city-based problems. The idea behind smart cities is based on optimization of cost, better living standards, preservation of resources, integration of technologies, and faster transactions. Smart cities are focused on efficiently managing urbanization, reducing energy consumption, and improving the green environment and the economic standards of citizens. The combination of technologies such as artificial intelligence and machine learning is providing and improving services of patient monitoring, disease early detection, imaging experiments, and so on. The new abilities of artificial intelligence and machine learning are allowing for employing some of major challenges in particular domains in healthcare systems. In healthcare systems, the technologies of artificial intelligence and machine learning allow faster disease diagnostics and are used to assist doctors to make better decisions and help doctors in suggesting better treatment for patients. They reduce errors and provide online care to patients, which reduce frequent hospital visits of patients. They also are used to store information about patients’ medical records, which helps in cost reduction. The primary objective of this chapter is to explore the role and importance of artificial intelligence and machine learning in the evolution of the smart healthcare system. In particular, this chapter explores the potential of artificial intelligence and machine learning in the development of personalized services of a smart healthcare system.
