Abstract

The lyoluminescence (LL) properties of γ-irradiated and Dy 3+ activated (K0.5Na0.5)Cl phosphors are reported in this paper. Samples were synthesised by the wet-chemical method. LL characteristics of the phosphor have been recorded for different γ-doses. Single isolated LL peak is observed, which indicates that only one type of luminescence centre is formed during irradiation of prepared materials by γ-ray. Negligible fading is observed in the prepared material. The LL intensity of (K0.5Na0.5)Cl:Dy is found to be dependent on γ-dose and varies linearly with gamma exposures between 0.08–5.00kGy γ-dose. LL intensity is also found to be dependent on concentrations of added Dy3+ impurity in all the samples. The prepared sample may be used for accidental radiation dosimetry.
