Abstract

A method of feedback design for damping control in mechanical systems is presented. In particular, several issues regarding nonlinear stabilization are discussed. The design method is Lyapunov-function based, and the resulting technique is easily applicable to damping control problems with friction interfaces. As an example, the method is applied to a flexible structure with a semi-active joint connection which acts as a controllable friction damper.
