Abstract

A case of luetic stricture of the rectum and a review of the literature are presented. The characteristics of our case which support the diagnosis are (1) the distinctive roentgen appearance of the rectum without evidence of sinuses or fistulae, (2) negative proctoscopic examination—rectal mucosa intact, (3) positive complement fixation tests for syphilis, (4) repeatedly negative Frei tests, (5) absence of inguinal adenopathy, (6) no menstrual abnormalities, (7) absence of gram-negative diplococci, (8) improvement and healing during antiluetic treatment, and (9) course of local disease condition approximately two years.
