Abstract

Observation of self-induced oscillations of the light angular spectrum in a resonantly absorbing dichroic azobenzene dye doped nematic liquid crystal and magnetic liquid is reported. The nonlinear behavior is mainly caused by the superposition of thermal and orientational mechanisms of interaction. Self-induced asymmetry of the light angular spectrum due to the convective shift of an anisotropic nonlinear lens is observed as well.© (1997) COPYRIGHT SPIE--The International Society for Optical Engineering.
