Abstract
This paper presents the analysis of two works by three authors (Klein, Arnault de Nobleville & Salerne), and a translator and adaptator (Behn), published in 1760, that contain classifications of amphibians and reptiles. The nomenclatural status of the herpetological nomina in these works, particularly regarding their availability and taxonomic allocation, is clarified. The discovery that the nomen Testudinata Klein, 1760 is available and has priority over all other class-series nomina proposed for the chelonians is highlighted and discussed.
