Abstract

Low-template (LT) DNA testing is a valuable tool in the forensic community. It is a more sensitive method than traditional DNA testing and refers to the analysis of samples that contain small amounts of DNA such as those with <100pg of DNA. The same laboratory techniques are used as in conventional DNA testing; however, LT-DNA testing includes slight modifications that are designed to increase the DNA signal. Owing to increased stochastic effects observed in LT-DNA samples, careful testing strategies and interpretation guidelines need to be validated to ensure reliable, robust, and reproducible results.
