Abstract

Lutetium gallium garnet (Lu 3Ga 5O 12, LGG) was synthesized by an aqueous sol–gel process. The sol–gel method based on metal chelates with 1,2-ethanediol in aqueous media has been selected. The obtained bulk Lu 3Ga 5O 12 samples were characterized by FTIR spectroscopy and powder X-ray diffraction analysis. The XRD patterns of the ceramic materials sintered at 1000 °C showed the formation of monophasic garnet phase. The Lu 3Ga 5O 12 possesses the cubic structure with lattice parameter a = 12.282(3) Å. This garnet structure material doped with different active elements could be potential candidate as laser material for solid state lasers.
