Abstract
In this paper, a new form of patch couplers with arbitrary coupling coefficient is proposed. It is designed in an asymmetry square patch shape with four identical slots embedded inside. By adjusting the asymmetry side length and the slot size, a wide range of coupling coefficient can be achieved. The proposed patch coupler is implemented on substrate integrated suspended line (SISL) platform, and low loss and self-packaging property are obtained. The detailed design procedure is concluded. Three demonstration cases with 3-dB, 6-dB, and 8-dB coupling coefficient are designed and fabricated by using printed circuit board (PCB) process. Good agreement between the simulation and measurement verify the controllability of the coupling coefficient, and meanwhile good return loss, isolation, and phase property are maintained.
