Abstract

The photoabsorption coefficient of H- in the region from 0.65 to 3.5 ryd is calculated using a three-state close-coupling approximation for the final state. Particular attention is given to the region near 0.751 ryd where a narrow shape resonance exists. Its oscillator strength is estimated to be 0.044. The contribution of processes leaving the hydrogen atom in an n = 2 excited state are studied. They are found to contribute 17% of the total. The oscillator strength sum rule is checked within 3%.
