Abstract
We are discussing a possibility of experimental measurement of the long-range nonconservative interactions of a neutral beam of helium atoms on an aluminum surface in the velocity range 0.1–2.5 a.u. General formulas for the lateral force with account of plasmon excitation effects and in the local Drude approximation to the surface response are given. A measurable positive energy gain of helium atoms caused by surface plasmon coupling is predicted.
