Abstract

Recurrent anterior shoulder dislocation is a common disabling condition that is treated with either arthroscopic Bankart repair or open Bristow-Latarjet procedure. Although multiple studies have reported excellent results for both techniques, there is still a relatively high incidence of complications. We describe a technique variation for the treatment of recurrent anterior shoulder dislocation: the long head of biceps tendon transfer. This technique follows the same crucial “sling effect” of the Bristow-Latarjet without the risk of coracoid bone block complications or scapular dyskinesis due to detachment of the conjoined tendon and pectoralis minor from the scapula. Moreover, it can be used with capsule-labrum repair.
