Abstract

The impact of Raman amplification on the optical and electrical signal-to-noise ratios of a high-speed signal (20 Gbit/s) is discussed. Combining Raman amplification with wideband higher-order fibre dispersion management technique yields successful long-haul Tbit/s-capacity wavelength-division multiplexed transmission based on the use of high-speed data channels.
