Abstract

The pistil ofLilium lonqiflorum secretes stigmatic exudate and canal exudate. In the previous paper (Miki-Hirosige et al. 1987), electrophoretic studies of these exudates have revealed quantitative and qualitative differences in protein profiles, but these exudates contain the quantitatively different same 5 proteins, and also it is assumed that the exudatic components which are transferred to the cell wall with endoplasmic reticulum and Golgi vesicles, are stored within the cell wall of the secretive tissues and secreted from the cell walls directly. In this paper, an immunocytochemical study was done to probe the secretive route of the two exudates in the young and matured lily pistils, by means of immunofluorescence and EM immunogold staining methods using a polyclonal antibody against the proteins contained in the stigmatic exudate.
