Abstract

1. In slow-adapting stretch receptor neurons in crustaceans the number of somatic spikes does not always accurately reflect the number of axonal spikes: it may be smaller or greater. 2. This phenomenon is associated with a decrease of the safety factor of the axosomatic and soma-dendritic regions, high and sustained depolarization of the soma membrane during the group discharge and, possibly, differences in the rate of accommodation of different parts of the neuron.
