Abstract

Load cells are described with nominal loads from 0.05 to 5 kg using thin-film strain gauges with a bridge resistance of 4000 Ω, but without hermetical encapsulation. The small load cell with only 3.4 cm of length can be used to measure mass and force. The 0.05 to 0.2 kg units of 0.2% class accuracy and the 0.5 to 5 kg cells have at least 0.1% class accuracy or up to 3000 graduations for use in scales. They meet the requirements of the German Physikalisch Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB) with regard to ‘measuring stability of load cells without hermetic metallic encapsulation of the strain gauge’.
