Abstract

Lithological features of intermoraine aquatic sediments were studied to assess the possibilities of their application for the stratigraphic subdivision and correlation, as well as paleogeographic reconstructions and localization of the terrigenous provenances during the formation of these sediments. Results of the lithological study of Quaternary aquatic sediments in the European subarctic part of Russia represented by various genetic types of sediments, often with very specific features, are presented. Based on the textural and structural characteristics in the Neopleistocene sequence, alluvial, lacustrine, fluvioglacial, and limnoglacial sediments are revealed.
