  • Jadhav Vaibhav Baburao + 7 more

The present study entitled, “Impact of seed priming and sowing windows on biochemical attributes of summer soybean (Glycine max (L.) Merrill) during storage” was carried out under the field and laboratory conditions at Post Graduate Institute Research Farm and Seed Technology Research Unit, Department of Agricultural Botany, Mahatma Phule Krishi Vidyapeeth, Rahuri, Dist. Ahilyanagar (M.S.) during summer season 2023 and 2024 with the objectives to study the effect of seed priming and sowing dates on growth and yield of summer soybean. Further, to study the effect of seed priming and sowing dates on seed quality and biochemical parameters of summer soybean during storage. Soybean seed sown on three sowing dates i.e. 1st January (1st week of January) (S1), 20th January (3rd week of January) (S2) and 10th February (2nd week of February) (S3). Three varieties of soybean viz., Phule Sangam (KDS-726) (V1), Phule Kimaya (KDS-753) (V2) and Phule Durva (KDS-992) (V3) were primed with seed priming treatments viz., Control (T1), Salicylic acid-100 ppm (T2), IAA -100 ppm (T3), ABA- 100 ppm (T4), GA3-100 ppm (T5) and α-tocopherol- 100 ppm (T6). Whereas, seeds were stored until germination percentage declined below 70.00% (as per Indian Minimum Seed Certification Standards, 2013). The field experiment was conducted in Factorial Split Plot Design (Factorial SPD) with three replications whereas, in laboratory Factorial Completely Randomized Design (FCRD) was used. In the laboratory experiment, Activities of antioxidative enzymes viz., catalase and lipid peroxidase activity were investigated at initial, 4th month and 8th month of storage. Seed sown on 1st January (1st week of January) (S1), Phule Durva (KDS-992) (V3) and seed primed with α- tocopherol (100 ppm) (T6) significantly increased activity of antioxidative enzymes viz. catalase, whereas it delayed the rate of lipid peroxidation as compared to other sowing dates, varieties and priming treatments up to 240 days of storage. Among the different interactions, interaction i.e., 1st January (1st week of January) (S1) with α- tocopherol (100 ppm) (T6) (S1T6), Phule Durva (KDS-992) (V3) with α- tocopherol (100 ppm) (T6) (V3T6) and 1st January (1st week of January) (S1) with Phule Durva (KDS-992) (V3) (S1V3) increased activity of antioxidative enzymes viz. catalase, whereas it delayed the rate of lipid peroxidation. Result of experiment showed that among the different interactions, interaction i.e., 1st January (1st week of January) (S1), Phule Durva (KDS-992) (V3) and α- tocopherol (100 ppm) (T6) (S1V3T6) showed higher catalase activity and lower lipid peroxidase activity.

Recent functional decline and outpatient follow-up after hospital discharge: a cohort study
  • Sep 11, 2023
  • BMC Geriatrics
  • Orly Bogler + 7 more

BackgroundFunctional decline is common following acute hospitalization and is associated with hospital readmission, institutionalization, and mortality. People with functional decline may have difficulty accessing post-discharge medical care, even though early physician follow-up has the potential to prevent poor outcomes and is integral to high-quality transitional care. We sought to determine whether recent functional decline was associated with lower rates of post-discharge physician follow-up, and whether this association changed during the COVID-19 pandemic, given that both functional decline and COVID-19 may affect access to post-discharge care.MethodWe conducted a retrospective cohort study using health administrative data from Ontario, Canada. We included patients over 65 who were discharged from an acute care facility during March 1st, 2019 – January 31st, 2020 (pre-COVID-19 period), and March 1st, 2020 – January 31st, 2021 (COVID-19 period), and who were assessed for home care while in hospital. Patients with and without functional decline were compared. Our primary outcome was any physician follow-up visit within 7 days of discharge. We used propensity score weighting to compare outcomes between those with and without functional decline.ResultsOur study included 21,771 (pre-COVID) and 17,248 (COVID) hospitalized patients, of whom 15,637 (71.8%) and 12,965 (75.2%) had recent functional decline. Pre-COVID, there was no difference in physician follow-up within 7 days of discharge (Functional decline 45.0% vs. No functional decline 44.0%; RR = 1.02, 95% CI 0.98–1.06). These results did not change in the COVID-19 period (Functional decline 51.1% vs. No functional decline 49.4%; RR = 1.03, 95% CI 0.99–1.08, Z-test for interaction p = 0.72). In the COVID-19 cohort, functional decline was associated with having a 7-day physician virtual visit (RR 1.15; 95% CI 1.08–1.24) and a 7-day physician home visit (RR 1.64; 95% CI 1.10–2.43).ConclusionsFunctional decline was not associated with reduced 7-day post-discharge physician follow-up in either the pre-COVID-19 or COVID-19 periods. In the COVID-19 period, functional decline was positively associated with 7-day virtual and home-visit follow-up.

In the effort of creating appropiate wage for employees, it is necessary to determine the wages by considering the increase of poverty without ignoring the increase of productivity, the progressivity of companies and the growth of economic. The new minimum wages in the provincial level and the regoinal/municipality level have been implemented per 1st January in Indonesia since 2001. The determination of minimum wage for provinvial level should be done 30 days before 1st January, whereas the determination of minimumwage for regional/municipality level should be done 40 days before 1st January. Moreover, there is an article which governs thet the minimumwage will be revised annually. By considering the time of determination and the time of revision above,it can be predicted that before and after the determination date will be crucial time. This is because the controversy among parties in industrial relationships will arise. The determination of minimum wage will always become a dilemmatic step which has to be done by the Government. Through this policy, on one side the government attempts to attract many investors, however, on the other side the government also has to protect the employees in order to have the appropiate wage in accordance with the standard of living.

Number of Surviving Children, Marriage Year and Duration of Marriage
  • Jan 1, 1931
  • J. Sanders

In the preceding chapters only the total number of children was taken into account, that is of children brought into the world, stillborn, alive or surviving but a short time. An important factor in the parents’ considerations with regard to a limitation of births will certainly be the number of children who actually continued to live. That is why we have examined how many children were alive on a certain date. We have for this purpose compared two groups of marriages, namely those contracted after the 1st January, 1918 (group I), and we investigated how many children in these families were alive on the 1st January, 1929. The second group (II) was that of the marriages entered into before the 1st January, 1915 and we also counted the number of children still alive on that date in the families concerned. In this connection, the marriages of equal duration were compared with each other.

Modified Nursery Structures: An Approach to Grow Rice Seedlings in Winter for Early Spring Planting
  • Jul 10, 2023
  • Agronomy Journal of Nepal
  • Puspa Raj Dulal + 3 more

Raising rice seedlings in cold winter months for subsequent early spring transplanting has a great challenge in rice-rice cropping system in Nepal. An essential technological intervention involves modifying the rice nursery structure to create an optimal environment that supports proper germination and seedling growth during the cold season. Hence, a field experiment was conducted to evaluate the impact of different nursery structures on the germination and growth of rice seedlings in the farmer’s field at Sunwal-12, Bhumahi, Nawalparasi West, from 21st of January- 19th of February, 2021, 2021. The experiment was executed in randomized complete block (RCB) design with 8 different raised bed (1m × 1m) structures as treatments, namely T1: open uncovered beds, T2: plastic tunnel covered beds, T3: mat bed under plastic tunnel, T4: plastic trayunder plastic tunnel, T5: Plastic tray under open condition, T6: Open bed with removal of dew, T7: Ash covered beds and T8: Plastic sheet covered beds. Each treatment was repeated three times. The spring rice variety Chaite-5 was sown at the rate of 60 g m-2, with dry seeds being evenly distributed in rows spaced 10 cm apart. The beds were fertilized at the rate of 1 kg N, 0.8 kg P2O5 and 0.8 kg K2O 100 m-2. Soil temperatures at a depth of 5 cm were monitored regularly at two time points each day, specifically at 8 am and 4 pm, until 30 days after sowing (DAS). The results revealed that the germination index, average height, and above ground weight were significantly higher (40.57, 9.81 cm and 78.67 gm-2, respectively) for the beds under tunnel (T2). Seedlings grown in trays under tunnel exhibited statistically similar plant heights. The highest seedling population m-2 (288% more compared to open beds) was obtained in trays (both open and under tunnel). Trays and mat beds under tunnel recorded higher soil temperature in the morning and evening, as well as higher air temperatures and relative humidity. These favorable conditions were met approximately 16-17 days earlier compared to the uncovered beds. Therefore, the practice of covering seedling beds with plastic tunnels, growing rice seedlings in plastic trays and utilizing mat beds were the better ways for raising rice seedlings in cold environments for early spring transplanting. Patient voice at scale: artificial intelligence-assisted qualitative analysis of patient-clinician rapport in public social media.
  • Dec 1, 2025
  • Panminerva medica
  • Zuhair Ahmad + 3 more

Clinician-patient rapport is linked to safety, satisfaction, and staff wellbeing, yet large-scale, real-time listening across the National Health Service (NHS) is limited. We examined how public discourse reflects rapport experiences in UK healthcare and assessed the utility of an artificial intelligence-assisted qualitative workflow. We conducted an observational qualitative study using reflexive thematic analysis of 5011 publicly available post submissions from the Reddit community r/NHS (1st January - 31st December 2024). After cleaning, deduplication, and lexical screening for rapport-related language, a large language model (LLM) supported clustering suggestions and provisional summaries; human researchers led interpretation and theme development. Trustworthiness techniques included analyst triangulation, an audit trail, negative case analysis, and stability checks. Data were non-identifiable and public; research ethics committee review was not required. This study is reported in accordance with the Standards for Reporting Qualitative Research (SRQR). Five overarching themes were identified: 1) access and delays that erode feelings of being heard; 2) first-contact experiences and gatekeeping at reception/telephone interfaces; 3) professionalism and empathy during clinical encounters; 4) emotional reciprocity and staff wellbeing shaping relational tone; and 5) service variation and perceived inequity across settings. Posts more often described administrative/communication breakdowns than clinical competence issues. Positive narratives highlighted brief empathetic acts that buffered system pressures. Cross-cutting, perceived relational communication moderated how operational strain was experienced. Paraphrased, de-identified exemplars underpin each theme. Public social-media listening can surface scalable signals about clinician-patient rapport across the NHS. An AI-assisted (LLM-supported) qualitative workflow is feasible and enhances, rather than replaces, human interpretation. Findings suggest targeting first-contact communication and access processes, while aligning patient-facing empathy with staff support.

  • Nepal Journal of Science and Technology
  • Mira Dhakal + 2 more

A field experiment was conducted to study the effect of different planting time on growth and flowering attributes of different varieties of African marigold at Kavre district of Nepal during the year of 2014 to 2017. The experiment consisted of four replications and was laid out in a two factorial RCB design. Six treatment combinations consisting of two open pollinated varieties of marigold viz. Calcattia Orange and Calcattia Yellow and three planting time viz. 1st January 2015, 15th February 2015 and 30th March 2015 were evaluated. The pooled analysis of two years’ data showed a significant influence of varieties and planting dates on vegetative growth and flower yield and yield attributing characters Flowering duration differed significantly with variety and its interaction with date of planting. Longer duration of flowering was observed by Calcattia Orange (57.58 days) followed by Calcattia Yellow (53.50 days). 1st January planting of Calcattia Orange exhibited significantly the longest flowering duration (62.00 Days). The flower yield per plant was the highest in Calcattia Orange (894.3 gm/plant) than Calcattia Yellow (815.3 gm/plant). Similarly, 1st January planting had the highest flower yield/plant (1033.1 g/plant) followed by 15th February planting (854.9 gm/plant) and 30th March planting (676.4 g/plant). Although not significant, Calcattia Orange planted on 1st January showed better results in terms of Flower yield /plant (1081 g), Number of flowers per plant and flower size as compared to other treatment combinations and significantly the highest duration of flowering (62.00 days) along with attractive orange color under Kavre condition.
