Abstract

This chapter describes the policy response to the Flemish innovation system’s excessive dependence on material- and energy-intensive production systems. The solution would require a long-term transition to a less resource-intensive and more knowledge-intensive economy. However, the governance of both sustainable development and innovation policy is still dominated by a sectoral logic in institutional behaviour and policy development that is a bottleneck for integrated policy development.
