Abstract

By using the results for a lower bound to the dimensionless limit pressure of radial and oblique nozzles in spherical pressure vessels given in Part 1 of this paper, a design procedure is proposed based on equating the limit pressure to the vessel test pressure. Some typical results are given, together with a discussion of the extent of reinforcement required in the branch and sphere. Using a published elastic analysis, the elastic stress concentration factors for the vessels designed by this method are presented.
