Abstract

Features of the Theory of Island Biogeography were investigated using the saxicolous lichen communities of isolated limestone rock surfaces. Species—area relationships were confirmed, and a major contributory factor appeared to be the increase in the micro-habitat diversity with increase in boulder size. Such studies generate useful discussion, particularly in respect of conservation and the creation of nature reserves.
