Abstract
Optical properties of a stack of layers of right- and left-hand cholesteric liquid crystal with locally indefinite dielectric and magnetic permittivities are investigated. The problem is solved by the modified Ambartsumian’s layer addition method. The peculiarities of nonreciprocity of this system are studied and it is shown that at certain values of system parameters it can work as a practically perfect optical diode.
