Abstract

An "on/off" functionality of a nanopore or channel is critical to control ion transport. In this issue, Chen et al.2 report the elegant use of light as a trigger to induce ionic Coulomb blockade in single-layer sub-nanoporous MoS2. Light-induced surface charge phenomenon is fast and reversible making it a promising technique to probe charged transport.
