Abstract

The $^{150}\mathrm{Nd}$${(}^{35}$Cl,4n${)}^{181}$Ir and $^{150}\mathrm{Nd}$${(}^{34}$S,4n${)}^{180}$Os reactions have been used to study the lifetimes of high-spin states in $^{181}\mathrm{Ir}$ and $^{180}\mathrm{Os}$ using the recoil-distance technique. The lifetimes of four states in $^{181}\mathrm{Ir}$ and three yrast states in $^{180}\mathrm{Os}$ have been determined. The mean weighted values of quadrupole moments deduced for the measured rotational transitions between yrast states in $^{181}\mathrm{Ir}$ and $^{180}\mathrm{Os}$, ${\mathit{Q}}_{0}$=(6.0\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.2) e b and ${\mathit{Q}}_{0}$=(6.1\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.4) e b, respectively, are equal within experimental errors.
