Abstract

Single-photon excitation of gaseous NO 2 at 436.45 nm at 10 −3−10 1 Torr pressure range has been shown to produce NO 3 as an intermediate of NO 2 under threshold photolysis. Serious kinetic evidence has been obtained that the formation of NO 3 can proceed through the reaction of electronically excited NO 2 species with ground state NO 2 molecules.
