Abstract

It is analyzed the significance of the main changes in the Colombian political system from the National Front to the Constitution of 1991 and is examined its achievements, limitations and main challenges. It is also discussed how the Colombian democracy, although expanded, continued to be restricted, exclusory, and with difficulties to legitimize its partisan political representation system. The selection, interpretation, analysis and systematization of the most relevant Colombian political literature on the subject served as the basis for the argument that supports this study. Finally, to conclude, ten theses on the evolution of the Colombian political system are proposed.
