Abstract

Since retrospective studies on the use of corticosteroids in acute laryngotracheobronchitis have demonstrated no significant improvements following their administration and the use of antibiotics in dealing with children with acute laryngotracheobronchitis is of questionable value, it was a relief to find an alternative treatment as presented by Adair on the use of racemic epinephrine in children with acute LTB and the quite impressive statistics that demonstrated no tracheotomies during his study for this illness. It gave those of us treating children with this condition the opportunity to use a relatively benign treatment program that would both benefit the patient immediately as well as, hopefully, obviating the necessity of tracheotomies.
