Abstract

As part of a research contract with Electricité de France, 28 big karstic chambers have been studied. For each of them, a map, a geological survey and observations about stability have been made with simple ways. The study shows that 450 meters large exemples exist. Three natural digging ways are considered : by dissolving, by dissolving and collapse, by washing away and collapse. The last part is about artificial caves some propitious geological surroundings for big artificial chambers are defined.
