Abstract

Dielectric and pressure virial coefficients for six different mixtures of N2O–argon have been measured at 30.1 °C. The quadrupole moment of N2O calculated from the dielectric second virial coefficient of the mixture N2O–argon is 3.4 × 10−26 esu cm2. This value is identical to that obtained by Kirouac and Bose from the dielectric second virial coefficient of pure N2O. The good agreement confirms the model developped by Bose and Cole for quadrupolar molecules.
