Abstract

The left-right ambiguity in multiwire drift chambers can be solved using the difference of induced signals on potential wires on either side of the anode. Extrapolations of the measurements show that the left-right separation for minimum ionizing particles as close as 50 μm to the anode could be possible. A detailed treatment resulting in new insights in the induction of charges on electrodes in proportional chambers is presented.
