Abstract

This research compared two methods of instruction, lecture‐discussion and independ ent study, for a college level course in the social and psychological aspects of clothing. A secondary aspect of the study was to compare the effectiveness of independent study for both on‐campus and off‐campus students. The methods were compared in terms of cognitive gain, retention of course material, student course evaluation, and affective behavior. Results indicated no significant difference between treatment groups.
