Abstract
AbstractThe aim of this research is to propose a framework of characteristics that are decisive for selecting, promoting, and training innovation agents. We postulate that learnings from post-merger integration (PMI) research can be applied to design a skill inventory for successful transformational innovation leadership. Based on a semi-systematic literature review on PMI management, in particular literature that either deal directly with the integration manager, with leadership or management in integration, or with the selection of an integration manager or members of an integration team, and the assessment by an expert panel a theoretical framework is proposed. The framework builds on the premise that characteristics are decisive if they can be applied by the innovation agent to address the key tasks and challenges of leading innovation following the innovation landscape mapping. Applying a gaming approach with Avatars we propose a learning framework that functions as a guidance for leaders tasked with the identification and selection of an innovation agent, highlights training areas in need of, and acts as a baseline for further attention.KeywordsInnovationInnovation landscapePost-merger integrationIntegration managerInnovation agent
