Abstract

In recent years there has been an astronomic rise in raw material costs for applications using traditional sinter hardened powder metal (PM) materials rich in alloying elements. This has reduced levels of profitability within the entire value chain to dangerously low levels, even threatening the competitiveness of specific PM applications against competing metal forming techniques. Consequently, there are urgent demands from end users, system suppliers and component producers alike for innovative, cost-effective solutions.
