Abstract

Program Description: Dr Nielsen, Dr Miller, and Ms Green will discuss how patient safety and quality improvement (PSQI) are relevant for their specific domains and how it relates to the practicing clinicians. Dr Nielsen will provide the perspective of the Academy and how the Academy is being proactive in dealing with the myriad regulatory issues regarding PSQI as well as the various organizations with whom the AAO-HNS must be active to ensure proper representation and prioritization. Dr Miller, representing the ABOto, will discuss the role of PSQI in the Maintenance of Certification and how the ABOto is working to ensure the safety and quality of the practicing otolaryngologists for the community. Ms Green, a senior leader at a large mid-Atlantic healthcare organization, will discuss and demonstrate the role of PSQI in the day-today practice of surgeons and how the healthcare institutions and the physicians can collaborate to advance PSQI-related issues. Formal lectures will be followed by a panel discussion with a moderator and a question and answer session for the participants.
