Abstract
The Commonwealth Government is involved in internationally competitive elite-level sports, supporting national sporting organisations and driving national governance and policy programs. The High Performance Sports (HPS) division engaged the services of an external leadership coaching company to support and develop their HPS leaders and coaches with the requirement to better equip them to coach and lead their various sporting teams and athletes to reach their full potential. The leadership capability program was co-created and consisted of six one-day leadership modules on the topics of communication skills, planning and organising, aligning performance for success, continuous improvement, gaining commitment and coaching and developing others. In addition to the leadership capability program, monthly team coaching was provided for the combined HPS and Business Services leadership team. Despite the fact that the leadership team coaching was organisation-wide and included leaders from both HPS and Business Services, it was undoubtedly HPS that received the greater share of attention in terms of proportion of participants.
