Abstract

A comparative survey that discusses how national leaders in six Western democracies - France, Germany, Great Britain, Australia, Canada, and the United States - are nominated for the highest office in their respective countries. Emphasizing the traditional methods of career advancement, this title also reveals the increasing role of opinion polls, television, and professional campaign management in the leadership selection process in the six countries. Will be of interest to students and faculty in comparative government, political parties, and public affairs, as well as academic and public libraries.
