Abstract

Abstract Catalytic oxidation of furfural leads to 2-furancarboxylic acid. The reaction is carried out in an aqueous alkaline medium under a stream of oxygen in the presence of a bi-metallic lead/platinum deposited on charcoal catalyst. The effect of the main reaction parameters is studied and a reaction scheme is proposed taking in account the results obtained.
