Abstract
Industrial or occupational hygiene is normally defined as “that science and art devoted to the anticipation, recognition, evaluation, and control of those environmental factors or stresses arising in or from the workplace, which may cause sickness, impaired health and well-being, or significant discomfort among workers or among the citizens of the community”. Taking into account the importance of this discipline for the health of workers in particular and of the population in general, for years there was a need to define requirements that could guarantee a high and standardized professional level for figures operating in the sector. For this purpose, standard UNI 11711:2018 Unregulated professional activities - occupational hygienist - Requirements for knowledge, skills and competence was published in 2018. In this paper, the main points of the standard are discussed and the positive aspects that this can have in the field of industrial hygiene are outlined.
