Abstract
ABSTRACT- The analysis of the tropic and symbolic treatment of nahualism in Hombres de Maíz tries to bring out the relations text-reader that M.A. Asturias's writing invents. The nahualism is a probing example of the making up of a veridiction contract internal to the text that installs the foundations for verisimilitude's conditions. The study of the character « Correo Coyote » enables to follow the progressive establishment of his double nature. Its parallel establishment with Goyo Yic/ « tacuatzin » demonstrates the diegetic and symbolic importance of the nahual motif.
