Abstract

Cellulitis is a skin and skin-associated structure infection with many clinical mimickers called pseudocellulitis. Dermatology consultation is considered the gold standard for diagnosis. A prospective cohort of adult patients presenting to the emergency department with concern for lower extremity cellulitis received dermatology consultation with conferral of a final diagnosis. Patients with signs of complicated cellulitis, such as abnormal vital signs, or infection overlying hardware, animal bites, or sites of recent surgery were excluded.
