Abstract

AbstractA modified Urey‐Bradley type force field was adopted to study the lattice modes of polyethylene by the GF matrices method with the intermolecular force constants which were estimated from the intermolecular potential function of methane. The frequencies of the modes were calculated at intervals of 30° for the phase differences along the a axis and the b axis. The elastic moduli of polyethylene crystal along both axes were also obtained from the intermolecular potential function.
